Skopje “Alexander the Great” Airport Among Top 10 Airports in Eastern Europe for 2017

Skopje “Alexander the Great” Airport which is operated by TAV Macedonia, has been ranked among the top ten best airports in Eastern Europe for 2017 at the World Airport Awards, organized by the renowned British SkyTrax air travel guide and ranking agency.

At the gala ceremony for the SkyTrax World Airport Awards which was held in Amsterdam as part of the “Passenger Terminal EXPO” airport services fair, Skopje airport was placed on the ninth position on the list of TOP 10 best airports in Eastern Europe in the category “The World's Best Airports by global region”. The list was topped by Budapest, followed by Talin, Kiev, Riga, Belgrade, Tbilisi, Sofia, Bratislava, Bucharest and Skopje.

„SkyTrax“ is a research organization established in 1989 based in London, Great Britain. The organization specializes in conducting research focused on air transport industry specifically, and is committed to the improvement of the services offered by airlines and airports to travelers around the world. It awards is the most prestigious accolades in the air transport industry which are based on the largest annual survey measuring client satisfaction on the most important airports in the world.

The awards for 2017 are based on a survey of 13.82 million processed questionnaires, answered by travelers from 105 different nationalities. The research was conducted in the period from July 2016 till February 2017 and covers 550 airports around the world, evaluating passenger experience over a series of key indicators for airport service: check in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, speed of movement toward the departure gates and other services. The World Airport Awards, widely known as the Passenger Choice Awards are a global benchmark for high airport quality.

In the general competition of the World Airport Awards, the Top 10 airports in the world for 2017 are: Singapore – Changi, Tokyo - Haneda, Incheon Airport in S. Korea, Munich Airport, Hong Kong Airport, Hamad Airport in Doha – Qatar, Nagoya’s Chubu Centrair Airport, Zurich Airport, London – Heathrow, and Frankfurt Airport.

Apart from being ranked among the Top 10 airports in Eastern Europe, Skopje’s “Alexander the Great” has recently also been awarded the prestigious ASQ (Airport Service Quality) award for 2012, 2014 and 2015 as the best airport in Europe in the category up to 2 million passengers, organized by the ACI – Airports Council International.
